Adult Psychotherapy
Support for life's transitions, emotional overwhelm, and deeper healing
Adulthood often brings quiet overwhelm- the kind that builds slowly through roles, responsibilities, losses, and patterns we've carried for years. You may find yourself feeling stuck, burnt out, disconnected, or anxious, and unsure where to begin. Sometimes, even with the support of friends, family, or partners, there are times when you may need a space that's just for you- a calm, non-judgmental space to pause, reflect, and work through what's difficult. Therapy provides that space to press pause and gently explore what's happening beneath the surface. Its a space for you- held with care, curiosity, and no judgment.
Sometimes, old wounds resurface. Sometimes, anxiety or disconnection begins to have an impact on your relationships, work, or sense of self. Therapy can help you make sense of these experiences, reconnect with your inner resources, and begin to move forward with more clarity and self-trust.
Common Areas of Focus:
- Anxiety, stress & emotional burnout
- Depression, disconnection, and numbness
- Grief, loss & life transitions
- Unresolved trauma
- Anger, frustration, or withdrawal
- Burnout
- Identity questions and self-worth
- Fears, phobias & nervous system sensitivity
- Neurodiversity-related challenges (e.g., high-functioning autism, ADHD, etc)
- Finding meaning or making change
Online Therapy
You still get the full experience of being seen, heard, and supported- from wherever you are.
For many clients, in-person sessions aren't always possible. Whether its your location, schedule, family commitments, or a preference for working from your own space, online therapy provides flexibility without compromising depth or care.
At The Listening Place, I offer secure online sessions via Google Meet (preferred), Skype or WhatsApp video. Adapted to suit your individual or relationship needs.
Online therapy may be right for you if:
- You live outside of Cape Town
- You travel or work irregular hours
- You're balancing parenting, caregiving, or health needs
- You feel more comfortable starting therapy from home
Online therapy may not be suitable in high-risk clinical situations, such as:
- suicidality or active self-harm
- severe psychiatric disorders (e.g. active psychosis, mania)
- severe dissociation or unmanaged trauma
- substance dependence requiring detox or containment
Confidentiality & Technology:
- Sessions are conducted on encrypted, secure platforms.
- Clients are responsible for ensuring privacy on their side (e.g., using headphones, a quiet place, and password-protected devices).
- No session recordings are made without written consent.
- Clinical notes are kept safely in accordance with HPCSA and POPIA regulations
Neurodiversity Support (Adults)
Therapy is not about "fixing" who you are. It's about understanding yourself more clearly, navigating the world more peacefully, and building a life that works for your brain and nervous system. Together with a multi-disciplinary team (Occupational therapist, Psychiatrist), I offer neurodiversity affirming support for adults who identify with:
- High functioning Autism, ADHD and Asperger's traits (terms separated under the umbrella of Autism Spectrum Disorder)
- Sensory processing differences
- Emotional Dysregulation
- Feelings of "masking", burnout, or being misunderstood.
Together, we explore your unique strengths, challenges and relational needs. Therapy might focus on managing overwhelm, setting boundaries, building self-compassion, or improving communication and routines.
